The World

Explore the Forty-two Isles of Symvalia — five regions of diverse ecosystems, cultures, and magical phenomena.

The Forty-two Isles of Symvalia are scattered across a vast ocean, connected by trade routes, shared traditions, and the magic of Arialma that flows through all of them. Each isle has its own climate, creatures, culture, and magical character.

The Five Regions

The Isles are organised into five major blocs, each with its own identity:

The Seven Central Isles

The heart of the Forty-two Isles. This is where the oldest settlements thrive and where travellers from all corners meet. The Central Isles are a crossroads of trade, culture, and government, ruled by Queen Maeve from Aishi Isle.

Notable isles include:

  • Aishi — the cosmopolitan capital isle where Queen Maeve holds court
  • Yestersun — a sprawling island of farms, orchards, rolling green fields, and idyllic landscapes
  • Chimneycake — named for the sweet-smelling smoke rising from its bakeries and forges
  • Cindermoss — volcanic soil and geothermal springs, homeland of the ash elves

The Eleven Northern Isles

Rugged, windswept, and mysterious. Pine-covered peaks and mist-shrouded valleys define the north, where the hardiest peoples endure cold climates. The northern isles suffered most during the Winter War, when a magical curse brought endless winter.

The Five Western Isles

Peaceful rolling hills and green countryside. This is halfling country — pastoral communities where life centres on good food, festivals, and strong community bonds. The Western Isles are known for their agricultural abundance.

The Seven Fae Isles

Otherworldly and shimmering, the Eastern Fae Isles exist at the edge of perception. The fae maintain their own sovereign courts here, each ruled by a monarch with absolute authority. Magic is wild and untamed — trees grow crystal leaves, and the boundaries between dream and reality blur.

The Twelve Southern Isles

Sun-drenched and lush, the Southern Isles are a paradise of tropical forests, vast deserts, and diverse cultures. Orc clans call the desert regions home, living under a system of tribal chieftains who answer to a high-chieftain. Dinosaurs still roam parts of the Southern Isles.

Ocean Settlements

Beyond the main landmasses, merfolk, selkies, and sirens have built their own civilisations beneath the waves — coral cities, kelp kingdoms, and deep-sea communities with their own bonding traditions.

Travel

Travel between the isles happens by boat, by flying mount (dragons, rukhwings, pegasi), or — for those with the right enchanted objects — through magical teleportation. Trade routes are well-established, and a thriving merchant class connects the Isles through commerce, cuisine, and culture.
